Fire Extinguishers

A fire extinguisher, flame extinguisher or simply put an extinguisher is another active form of fire protection. It is a device used to extinguish or control a small fire often in emergency situations and usually the first line of defense. It is not intended for use on an “out of control fire” which requires the expertise of the fire department and 911. Typically a fire extinguisher consists of a hand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent which can be discharged to extinguish a fire. A building is required to maintain these units and they must always be charged and ready for use in the event of a fire. Install fire extinguishers in plain view and near an exit route.

Accurate Fire Protection & Security maintains and tests as per the Ontario Fire Code and NFPA 10 2007 Edition. AFPS services and keeps in good working order extinguishers to the correct weight as per manufacture specifications. AFPS recommends that fire extinguishers should be maintained at regular intervals (weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, yearly). Maintenance is a “thorough check” of the extinguisher. It is intended to give maximum assurance that an extinguisher will operate effectively and safely. It includes a thorough examination and any necessary repair, recharging or replacement. It will normally reveal the need for hydrostatic testing of an extinguisher. From a simple (1) 5 lb. ABC extinguisher to a multi-tied in computer clean agent system.
